Content: “As an experienced Gentoo, KDE, and OpenRC user, I recently decided to start fresh and try out something new. So, I made the jump to GNOME and systemd. In this article, I’ll share my thoughts and experiences after using them for a week – the ups, the downs, and everything in between.

At the beginning of the month, Gentoo Linux’s website underwent a major overhaul – which strangely served as my inspiration. I’ve been wanting to start with a clean slate for a while now, but I couldn’t quite decide on the best approach.
Being a loyal KDE user, I initially held out for the stable release of Plasma 5 on Gentoo’s repository. However, after almost a year of waiting, there’s still more work to be done. Fueled by my determination, I couldn’t delay this reinstall any longer and started finding excuses to push myself.
At first, I thought I could just install Plasma 5 using alternative methods, but then I remembered the hype surrounding the release of GNOME 3.16 last month.
And just like that, my mind was made up. It has been four years since I used GNOME 3 extensively, so I figured it was time to catch up and see how the experience has evolved.
